Summary
Liverpool-based Pasta Cosa, a family-run hospitality business specialising in fresh, made-to-order pasta, is celebrating a strong period of growth and expansion across the city centre following investment from NPIF II — River Capital & GC Business Finance Smaller Loans, managed by River Capital & GC Business Finance as part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II.
Background
Founded in 2016 by siblings Kayleigh and Talia Baccino, Pasta Cosa began as a small family venture and has grown into a multi-site hospitality business delivering high-quality Italian food at accessible prices. Known for its fresh pasta and authentic flavours, the business has expanded to include a separate Francie’s Focaccia and Coffee restaurant, and prides itself on creating a welcoming dining experience for customers across Liverpool.
The funding journey
The Baccino siblings have drawn on investment at key points throughout their growth, including earlier support from Small Business Regional Growth Loan Fund — a £45k investment in 2016 and a further £20k in 2019.
Most recently, Pasta Cosa secured a £70k investment from NPIF II — River Capital & GC Business Finance Smaller Loans to open a new, larger site at Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock. The new venue features a fresh pasta kitchen, a mezzanine, and a bar area. The investment also supported operational capacity, kitchen and production facilities, and menu development to enhance the customer experience.
The impact
Now operating three locations in Liverpool, the business has grown its team from four to 30 employees and quadrupled turnover since 2016. The founders are now looking ahead to further expansion within and beyond Liverpool, exploring new technologies to improve efficiency and continuing to develop their team.
“From the start, we wanted to create somewhere people in Liverpool could enjoy good Italian food for an affordable price. The support we received through early stage funding and NPIF II at key points in our journey gave us both the working capital and confidence to take on bigger premises, invest in our brand and in our people. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built across our three locations and the number of jobs we’ve created in Liverpool.”
