This week we sat down with Portfolio Director, Marion Savill, who discussed her responsibilities for the River Capital equity investment portfolio.
What’s your job role at River Capital and what does that entail on a day-to-day basis?
I am responsible for some of our equity investment portfolio. I attend the board meetings of the companies in which we have investments, and aim to ask the right questions and give guidance to help the directors in their decision making.
What do you enjoy most about your role? How does this benefit client/partners?
It is a real privilege to work closely with very talented business leaders across a range of sectors. It’s great to be able to use that breadth of experience to help the companies think about situations from different perspectives. It’s also fantastic to see the companies we have invested in and worked with achieve their aspirations and go on to either float on the stock market, become part of a bigger group or secure the next level of investment.
What excites you most about the River Capital rebrand?
The River Capital brand is instantly memorable! With a new name, new offices and some of the new funds we’ve recently announced, we’ve developed a fantastic base to move forward with.
Tell us about your career background to date:
I have spent most of my career making and managing investments in small and medium sized businesses, initially for 3i pc and latterly for what is now River Capital. I have also worked as a Non Executive Director on the board of a hospital trust.
Away from the office, what are some of your hobbies and interest?
I love spending time outdoors. I play hockey and tennis and also enjoy running, hill walking and skiing.
If you won the £100,000,000 tomorrow, what would you do?
I hope that I would give most of it away to good causes!
