In our last instalment for International Women’s Day 2023, we sat down with World Championship and Olympic Gymnastics medalist turned business owner, Beth Tweddle!

Beth, why do you think it is important to celebrate International Women’s Day?

There are a lot of amazing successful women out there who have achieved fantastic things and this should be celebrated. It allows role models to be created to inspire other people that they too can achieve their dreams.

Have you faced any barriers in your career due to being a woman?

No, I have been really lucky to have so much support from a number of different people throughout my career. I have been able to learn from them and reach out for the support when I have needed it.

What is the most important piece of advice you have been given?

Never give up. With a lot of hard work and effort, you can achieve your dreams.

How can we encourage more women to pursue entrepreneurship or senior leadership roles in their career?

I think by creating the opportunities for them to get out there and by seeing role models achieving in the sector that they are passionate about. It allows people to believe that they can too achieve.

Has there been a particular woman that has inspired you in your career?

There has been a number of influential women throughout my career. These include my Mum. She has believed in me throughout everything I have done and has allowed me to make my own decisions but always been there ti support me should I need it. My coach Amanda, she helped me achieve my dreams in my gymnastics career and still to this day has a big influence on me. My two role models throughout my gymnastics career were Paul Radcliff and Kelly Holmes.

Why do you think diversity in the workplace is so important?

It allows for a broad range of ideas and brings together a broad range of skills, perspectives and experiences which helps a business grow.
